The more your book is bought the more it's seen by customers on Amazon.
Amazon wants to make money so its algorithm pushes up the books that sell the most. If your book is doing really well you'll notice it popping up in the search page or at the bottom of the page. Which is free advertising.
The best seller badge is one of the best marketing tools, and a great way to sell your books and boost your profile as an author.
How Many Sales Do I Need to be a Best Selling Author?
Some categories are more popular than others, which means it takes time and dedication to be up there with the best authors. Each category requires a different amount of books sold before the book becomes a best seller.
You need to take into consideration time and books sold every hour, or every day in your chosen category. Which means you may need to sell 20 books in an hour or 200 books in a month to get the little orange badge.

- How well the best seller in your category is selling
A best seller is not the best selling book on Amazon, it's within a particular category. So a book in a lesser known category may only need to sell 10 books a day to be a best seller. In comparison to a category that's popular, and has a lot of reader's.

Make Being an Amazon Best Seller One of Your Goals
Put it on your list of goals, and do as much as you can to make it happen. Don't think of it as an impossibility, but rather a prospect that's within your reach.
Make Your Book's Better
That's right, if you feel like there are points for improvement go through all of your books thoroughly and make them better.
Edit, create a new cover, add new information, update your book's categories or description, cover every avenue you can think of.
Try Out Different Promotions
There are loads of different ways to promote your books. You could try a $0.99 promotion for a limited time, free promotion on Amazon, lowering your book's price for a little while.
Look at what other author's are doing to get sales.
