Book Marketing, an Introduction

Not all marketing people are writers, but all writers must learn to be marketers.

Joanne Kraft

The Indie Author

You've written, edited, and published your book.

What's your plan of action to promote and market your book?

As a self-publisher I look at book marketing in the long-term, as an activity that needs to be repeated over and over again to find an audience for my books.

What Do You Need to Market Your Book?

A Professionally Produced Product

It goes without saying that your book should be well-written, edited and have an eye-catching book cover before you spend any time or money on marketing.

So make sure you produce a book worth reading!

Write as Many Books as You Can

That's right you need to produce more than one book, if you want to really market any of your books.  People that read one book will often start looking for another by the same author if they really enjoy the book they've just read.

So write, write, write.

Create Your Author Platform

Some authors use their platform just to advertise themselves and their books.  Others offer a service along with other products.  You can attract your audience by writing content which can be used to produce more books.

Create a Newsletter

People that love your work are the people you want buying your books.  So it only makes sense that you build a mailing list.

Paid Email Blasts

Email advertising is one of the best ways to advertise your books because it targets the right audience.
